If you have a chipped or broken tooth contact Johnston Dental as soon as possible.
In life, accidents happen and teeth break, chip and fracture – you don’t need to panic, but you will want to schedule an appointment with a dentist as soon as possible.
A small chip in a tooth may not even be noticeable, but if you have a large chip, broken or fractured tooth then please contact a dentist immediately. Chipped, fractured or broken teeth can cause permanent damage, become infected and cause severe pain. None of these things are desirable.
Johnston Dental has different treatments for a broken or chipped tooth depending on the severity.
Dental Filling or Bonding for Chipped Tooth
If it’s a small chip to just the enamel on your tooth we might possibly do a simple dental filling or if it requires a more cosmetic approach we will use a procedure called bonding where we match a composite resin to your tooth color and bond it to your tooth so that it will be impossible or nearly impossible to see any visible sign of damage to your tooth.
Dental Cap or Crown for Broken Tooth
If there is more extensive damage to the tooth we may choose to use a porcelain, resin or ceramic crown to protect your tooth from more damage and you from pain caused by exposed roots. This will also be a completely cosmetic fix for your chipped or broken tooth.
Root Canal for Broken Tooth
If the tooth is broken in such a way that the nerves and blood vessels are exposed this could require a root canal which involves removing and cleaning the affected area and sealing it. This procedure will also require a cap or crown to cover the damaged area and keep your tooth protected from exposure and bacteria.
