Is your office kid friendly?
Absolutely yes! We LOVE seeing kids. Our staff loves to interact with children and take time to make them feel safe and welcomed. It is not uncommon to see a child wearing a mask and gloves and learning how to “help” during a parent’s appointment, or to see a big brother or sister holding their sibling’s hand and cheering them on. We love to play with children and create educational moments.
The great experience starts right when you walk in. We have an amazing kid’s corner in the waiting room, where if they would like, they can play with toys or video games while they wait for their appointment. In addition, we have ceiling mounted TV’s above our dental chairs so children can watch cartoons while we “count their teeth”. We use the “Tell, show, do” method where we explain to a child what will happen, show them some of the tools (squirtgun, Mr. Thirsty, Mr. Mirror) we will use and then do a procedure. We talk about brushing away the cavity bugs on their teeth and take the time to show them in the mirror how to take care of their teeth.
We never force a child to get treatment done and we are happy to take several appointments to make them feel comfortable. We also offer sedation, including laughing gas or general sedation if needed. Kids are also very excited to see our treasure box at the end of their appointment! We have had several patients say their kids are counting down the days until they can come back.
We recommend your child’s first appointment whenever he or she has their first teeth-usually around six months. This first visit is called a happy visit where we acclimate the child to the dental office, take a peek at their teeth if they are comfortable, and discuss homecare and any questions or concerns with parents. We love treating your whole family and can’t wait to meet everyone!
