Dr. Matt Johnston
Dr. Johnston graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors degree in Exercise Science. While attending BYU, he had the opportunity to work as a researcher for Clinical Research Associates (CRA), a non-profit organization dedicated to testing and examining the most current dental products and techniques. This opportunity shaped Dr. Johnston’s value of research driven products and clinically proven technique to dentistry.
He graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry in 2005 with a Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree. He received multiple academic and clinical awards and was inducted into the Stomatognathic Honor Society, the dental honor society of Temple University, and the Oral Surgery Honor Society.
During his junior and senior year at Temple University, Dr. Johnston enjoyed dental mission trips to Romania, Haiti and Eastern Pennsylvania. Dr. Johnston has continued to enjoy dental outreach opportunities through volunteering at local elementary schools educating children about dental hygiene and serving as an affiliated dental provider for the Mobile Dental Unit and Service Dental Day, giving care to the needy and homeless in the local area.
Dr. Johnston has enjoyed leadership opportunities beginning in his undergraduate education as vice president of the Pre-dental club at BYU. He continued to serve as a leader in Dental school as the treasurer and vice president of his dental class working as a liaison between faculty and students. After graduation, he has served as secretary, Vice President and President of the Rogue Valley Dental Association and as a Delegate for the Oregon Dental Association.
After earning his DMD degree, Dr. Johnston was offered an opportunity to work at Siskiyou Community Health Center in Grants Pass, Oregon. This opportunity allowed him to use his ability to speak Spanish fluently and show compassion to those in need. However, his inability to provide comprehensive care due to coverage limitations became frustrating. For this reason, Dr Johnston began private practice in 2007. He enjoys the challenge and diversity of general dentistry and whether he’s working on a simple filling or a complex full mouth restoration, he approaches each procedure with the same degree of care and attention to detail. Dr. Johnston’s patients consistently comment on his empathy and ability to listen. He also has a gift for treating children.
In 2012 he participated in the Misch International Implant Institute and trained to surgically place implants. Upon completion, he was accepted as a fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantologist. He is also a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry of which he is a career-long member.
Dr. Johnston was raised in the Utah Valley and has always enjoyed life in the great outdoors. He and his wife, Erica are dedicated and busy parents to 4 boys and 2 girls. In his spare time Dr. Johnston volunteers in his church and local scout group and enjoys swimming, biking, running, playing guitar and reading.
Dr. Shane Huish
From a young age Dr. Shane Huish aspired to be a dentist. His love for teeth and helping people has grown strong throughout his life and schooling.
Shane graduated Summa Cum Laude from Utah State University in 2014 with a Bachelors degree in Business Management. Shortly after graduation, he and his family moved to Nova Scotia where he attended Dalhousie Dental School.
Dr. Shane received the prestigious CARDP Scholar award for receiving the highest marks in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics. He also received Nova Scotia Dental Association Prize for his proficiency in clinical procedures and attention to detail. Some of his favorite time was spent at various externships that involved serving the community. He volunteered at elementary schools in underserved areas where he was able to provide much needed dental care to young children. Dr. Shane enjoys performing a wide variety of dental procedures and is committed to providing quality care.
Shane was raised in Northern Utah. He enjoys many activities including soccer, mountain biking, hockey, basketball and most of all exploring the beautiful outdoors with his family. After high school, Shane served a two year proselyting mission in the North-Eastern United States, spending the majority of his time in Vermont and Maine.
He and his wife, Brittany, have two beautiful children. Together, they love exploring Oregon!
Dr. Jake Roper
Dr. Jake discovered his love for dentistry during his early years of undergrad. Jake spent hours shadowing all kinds of healthcare professionals during his first and second years of school at Utah State University. He soon met a general dentist and felt that he had found his craft. Jake’s interest in economics and medicine fueled his participation in the USU Pre-dental Club and he found that they organized an outreach trip to Mexico every year during spring break. The next
year Jake became the club’s president and led fundraisers and meetings throughout the year in preparation for outreach efforts.
Jake graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with a minor in Chemistry. Soon after, Jake attended dental school at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. Dr. Jake conducted his own research during those years studying barriers in accessing dental care. During his fourth year of dental school, Jake was one of the few selected to provide outreach care to vulnerable populations through the University’s public health program.
After dental school, Jake and his family moved to Montana where he completed a residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD). Since his residency, Jake has been practicing in Missoula, Montana. Dr. Jake loves all things related to general dentistry. Jake’s post-graduate training and time in private practice has provided him with experience in more advanced procedures which include placing dental implants, molar root canal therapy, clear aligner orthodontics, and more complex full mouth rehabilitation cases. Dr. Jake looks forward to getting to know his patients and addressing their dental needs.
Outside of dentistry, Jake enjoys spending time with his family and being outdoors. Jake and his wife, Hailey, have two beautiful daughters on earth and a baby boy in heaven. You can find them biking, hiking, skiing or playing pickleball. Jake and his family are thrilled to be part of the Grants Pass community.
